His debut CD is a hit in his native China and more than 30,000 copies have been sold, ensuring that he is a recognized personality in the world of music in China.

 

The pianist Haiou Zhang has been attracting a lot of attention on international concert podiums recently. His career started in 2005 and 2006 with two enthusiastically received appearances at the Braunschweig Classix Festival, thus attracting the attention of the general public. Subsequently he received invitations to leading European music festivals, such as for example the Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival, Festspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Kissinger Sommer, Beethovenfest Bonn, Mozart Festival Augsburg, the Chopin Society Hanover and the Pierre Cardin Academy Festival in Paris. In the 2007/2008 season he appeared or will appear in major concert halls in Germany such as the Berlin Philharmonie, Hamburg Laeiszhalle, Munich Gasteig, Tonhalle Dusseldorf, Cologne Congress Center, Potsdam Nikolaisaal and the NDR Radio Hall Hanover. 

Further engagements included his Canadian debut with the Toronto Philharmonia Orchestra under the baton of Kerry Stratton in the opening concert of the season 2007/2008 in the Toronto Centre for the Arts with Tchaikovsky's first Piano Concerto. The Classical KFHM 95,5 will feature his USA Debut in the Simms Center for the Performing Arts of Albuquerque. Further invitations followed from Los Angeles, Chicago and New York.

Haiou Zhang gives interviews and concerts regularly on several international broadcasting and televisions, such as CCTV, 3Sat, SF1, Bavarian Radio, NDR, WDR, radio Bremen, Deutschlandradio Kultur and the Deutsche Welle TV.

Haiou Zhang has already performed as soloist  with the Ukraine National Symphony Orchestra, the Brandenburg Symphony Orchestra, the Polish Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra, the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra Kralove and the BSO - Beijing Symphony Orchestra. 

As a keen chamber musician he is the Gold medalist of the 1st National Piano-Duo Competition in China. After his major success at the V. International Vladimir Horowitz Piano Competition in Kiev he produced a CD for the radio station “Norddeutschen Rundfunk”. In 2005 Haiou Zhang awarded the prestigious Gundlach Music Prize in Germany. Since then he became the scholarship holder of the Theodor Lessing Foundation and the Yehudi Menuhin Foundation.

Haiou Zhang, who was born in 1984, studied from 1994 till 2002 at the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing. Since the winter of 2002 Haiou Zhang has been studying with the well-known pianist Bernd Goetzke at the University of Music and Drama Hanover. Beside his mucial career, he has also received the Youth Literature Competition award in China in 1998.
